I have a bunion on my right foot. I’ve changed my footwear and wear special pads at night to separate my toes. Will it go away on its own? Sadly by the time bunions appear the bones have already started to deform and they won?t get better on their own. The only way to correct them is with surgery but it?s not an operation to be undertaken lightly. I wouldn?t advise it on cosmetics alone but if your bunion is causing you a lot of pain it?s worth considering. In the meantime sensible shoes may not look as glamorous but they will make your foot more comfortable. Whether or not high heels cause bunions is always hotly debated ? I suspect they play a role but the greatest risk factor is a family history. Two thirds of people with bunions have a close relative with the same problem.
