I think I suffer from PCOS as I have gained weight steadily for years now and have even developed embarrassing hair on my face. Luckily I’m blonde, but you can see it in certain lights and it’s destroying my confidence. What can I do to sort this and get my energy back?
A.Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) affects as many as one in five women and is associated with higher than normal androgen levels in the blood causing acne, unwanted facial hair and problems with fertility. Women with PCOS find it difficult to lose weight but it is worth working at because weight loss actually improves the other symptoms. There is also a contraceptive pill called dianette available on prescription that helps the skin and hair problems. If you don’t want to go down this route, electrolysis and laser treatment both remove hair permanently but can be expensive and laser hair removal is most effective on dark hair.
